AWS EC2 Utilization – Who are the best performers?
Newvem’s Opinion
Considering the earlier finding of non-efficient users of AWS, the data presented here highlights the polarized usage of light users vs. medium/large users. They are either very non-efficient, or very efficient, while the medium and heavier users have a wider distribution between non-efficient and very efficient.
In our opinion, light users have a more variable skill set to embark on a cloud paradigm for their efforts, and would probably benefit from outside help to bridge their lack of skills. In addition, the amount of medium users that are efficient is relatively low, which continues to emphasize that as a footprint grows, users need additional help and resources to become effective. As heavy users are able to increase their efficiency, it is obvious that at a certain threshold, experience to scale has been gained and more skilled resources have been deployed. This proficiency may be attributed to the fact that the business has been able to successfully align its cloud consumption to its growth and therefore afford skilled resources.
