Cloud Radar

The ‘CloudRadar’ channel is a source for cloud users to learn more about their cloud and how they can make it more effective. This data has been collected from an anonymous sample of KnowYourCloud Analytics users (see more on the beta below) and shows key figures behind the scenes of AWS use with regards to aspects such as cost security and availability.

AWS EC2 Cost – Are AWS users overspending ? There is a strong relationship between the budget of an AWS user and their efficiency. There is an efficiency chasm that needs to be crossed when users scale from medium size to larger size spends. As users begin to spend more than $3,000/month there is a negative impact on efficiency as the scale their AWS footprint.
AWS EC2 Utilization – How efficient are AWS users? Despite the fact that light users have a much smaller cloud footprint relative to heavy users, the vast majority of light users struggle to utilize their cloud efficiently.
AWS EC2 Security Groups Usage – How secure is your data in the cloud? It is alarming that across the board, with the ease of bringing online AWS EC2 resources, users are not aware of the additional impact of their actions.
AWS Elastic Load Balancer Usage – How “real” is your availability? It is surprising to see that a significant amount of AWS users are aware of the benefits of ELB, yet not familiar with the inherent opportunity to increase availability by using ELB across multiple availability zones.
AWS EC2 Utilization – Who are the best performers? Considering the earlier finding of non-efficient users of AWS, the data presented here highlights the polarized usage of light users vs. medium/large users. They are either very non-efficient, or very efficient, while the medium and heavier users have a wider distribution between non-efficient and very efficient.
